Our ‘Reset and Growth, African Mobility Strategy’ is centered on our vision, which is to generate value for all stakeholders by contributing to a sustainable future of mobility in Africa.
  • We are pursuing opportunities to expand in the automotive components segment, including diversifying our customer base, identifying additional parts and ranges (including new energy vehicles) to expand our portfolio and offering to existing customers, as well as opportunities to grow by acquisition. We are also assessing opportunities to expand partnerships with existing business partners and expand our customer base through new partnerships.
  • Aftermarket sales of automotive parts is a significant opportunity for Metair, both in South Africa and in the rest of Africa. The AutoZone acquisition represents a key strategic step in this area.
There are over 13 million registered vehicles in South Africa and an estimated 30 million vehicles in the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, which represent the potential market size for aftermarket spares, replacement batteries and other products and services to maintain these vehicles. Most of these vehicles are aging, requiring more regular replacement of parts.

To achieve our strategy, five strategic priorities are being implemented to reset the group to a solid foundation, and align with changes in the automotive industry, and sustained success.

There has been notable progress made in these five key areas:

Stabilise

Metair’s central office role has changed from being an investment holding company, to the management of a strategically focused operating entity with standardised processes, integrated technology and a culture of common values and interpretation. The executive team has been transformed to implement Metair’s strategic plan to ensure sustainability across all companies.

We have advanced our ambition to achieve a more robust portfolio to counter reliance on single brands by capitalising on our manufacturing and aftermarket opportunities, expanding the African footprint, enhancing the customer base and seeking new partnerships. Opportunities to complement the business model through acquisition will also be considered.

To ensure clarity of accountability throughout the group, Metair is focused on optimising profitability and driving operational efficiencies across all subsidiaries.

Metair has re-aligned its human resource competence and capability model, with management teams across all companies strengthened and better aligned to Metair’s strategy of improved operational excellence and growth.

Metair is in the process of executing on its optimal capital structure, which commenced in 2024 and consists of disposing of non-core assets, closing non profitable lines of businesses, streamlining the manufacturing operations to flex within the required customer volumes and growing our EBITDA and improving free cash flow.
